One more shocking evidence of tortures from Karelia

Maxim Kamakin, a legal attorney, found in Karelia a young man – well, he can be called “young” only considering his numerical age, he waws born in 1981, but he looks as an 60-years old. His name is Misha.

He walks with a stick, because of the spinal injury. He can’t stay upright for a long time, because of the foot injury. He can’t smile, because of the vicious union of his broken  jaw. He can’t lift heavy things: his broken hand didn’t concrete properly.

Kamakin talk with this man for four hours – the greatest time it is allowed to talk with prisoners. He was able to fix only a small part of what he heard. Just read it.

«November 22, 2010 I was transferred to Prison-7 in Segezha, Karelia. At the first day   … three prison employees beat me, wristbands on my arms, for about 10 minutes…

<…>
Than, at the evening, I was led from my ward, and five jailors beat my, with their hands and feet, for about 20-30 minutes.
<…>
The next morning, at about  9 o’clock, I was led to the corridor, where there were eight prison employees. And they began to beat me, all eight of them, with their hand and feet. Than they fixed my arms with wristbands and led me to the yard, where they poured cold water on me. It was very cold outside that day. And they left me like this, in a wet clothes, along in the yard.

<…>
I was tortured for about four months.  Among other tortures, they hang me on rack for about 40 minutes. I was crying from pain until I lost my consciousness. I was also strangled, bastinaded with rubber truncheons until I couldn’t stay upright. In this period I had my left hand broken.

<…>
Since now my hand was broken, they couldn’t hang me on rack any more, and so they began to torture me in a different way. They put a rad book, a very big one, in the small of my back, and beat me at the kidney zone and at the spine. The pain was excruciating, I cried loudly and begged to let me go. This torture lasted for 20-40 minutes, depending on jailor’s mood. They beat me with their hands, feet, with rubber truncheons, offending and humiliating me in various ways. This lasted about two months.
<…>
Then they left me for about a month, but in January  2012 tortures started again. I was hanged on rack for about 1 hour 40 minutes. The jailors didn’t react on cries and pleas for help. They took me off only when I was already unconscious.
<…>
Also other prisoners and me suffered the following humiliating torture: they led a prisoner to the corridor, ordered to  peel right down to nothing, then laid out and beat naked laying man with their feet. This torture lasted for about 10-15 minutes, and then it was turn of another prisoner, who was already waiting for his doom in a nearby ward».

Nikolay Zboroshenko, a legal attorney, will be Misha’s representative in ECHR. Maxim Kamakin agreed to visit Misha every 10 days.
